the university subject consensus census

Named Evaluate+, after the subject allocation software Allocate+, this web app offered students the chance to recount their experiences in their subjects and, in turn, get recommended future subjects based on their responses.

This website was created as part of a subject during my tuition at Monash University. In a team of five, we made great use of agile methodologies in order to create this app within a tight, 8 week timeframe. This is inclusive of extensive documentation and reflection upon the methods in which we worked as a team.

The app had multiple sections, the first of which was the subject census. This was a survey that asked students to rate their subjects on different metrics, such as coursework difficulty, exam difficulty, an overall enjoyment. There was extra space for students to write any additional comments that they were willing to share. The most important part of the web app was a yes/no question that asked students whether or not they would recommend the subject to another student. Using these metrics, an algorithm was able to align groups of subjects that were similar in terms of student feedback. This allowed students to see which subjects they were most likely to enjoy, and tailor their university experience accordingly.

The second section of the app was the course map feature, in which students were able to see which subjects were necessary for completing their course and which subjects were electives. Furthermore, it kept track of which subjects were prerequisites for other subjects and allowed students to plan their on a semester-by-semester basis. Within the course map electives section, was a list of subjects sorted by which ones were determined by the algoithm to be most aligned to the subjects that the student has already enjoyed.

Now, I have lost track of the gitlab link for this project; so for now you are just going to have to trust me. I hope that, so far, I have been a trustworthy narrator.
